News(Phnom Penh): On the morning of Tuesday, 17 March 2026, at the Ministry of Commerce, Her Excellency CHAM Nimul, Minister of Commerce, received a courtesy call from Mr. Gaurav Patil, Senior Vice President and Country Head of Olam Food Ingredients (OFI) in Vietnam, along with his delegation, to discuss ways to promote and explore opportunities for cooperation in developing Cambodia’s cashew value chain. During the meeting, Mr. Gaurav Patil, Senior Vice President and Country Head of Olam Food Ingredients (OFI) Vietnam, informed that Olam Food Ingredients (OFI) Vietnam is a subsidiary of Olam Group, a large multinational company headquartered in Singapore and operating in more than 60 countries. The Group is a leading player in the food and agri-business sector, supplying customers worldwide. In addition, Olam Group established Olam Outspan (Cambodia) in 2017, with the aim of promoting and expanding its investment in the processing of Cambodian cashew nuts and other potential agricultural products, including mango, durian, pineapple, and more. He further added that, recognizing Cambodia’s strong potential, along with its stable economic and political environment, OFI intends to expand its investment in the Kingdom of Cambodia, particularly in cashew processing. He also proposed strengthening cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce to explore the possibility of establishing favorable mechanisms to further promote the processing of Cambodia’s potential products in a more diversified manner in the future. In response, Her Excellency Minister expressed her warm welcome to Mr. Gaurav Patil and his delegation, and conveyed appreciation for the company’s confidence in investing in and expanding its business operations in Cambodia. Both sides also agreed to continue close cooperation in promoting, encouraging, and developing Cambodia’s cashew processing sector and other potential products for further growth.

At the outset, Her Excellency Minister warmly welcomed the delegation and extended congratulations to Mr. Enjoy Ho on his appointment as the new Chairman, as well as to the Vice Chairmen and members of the Association’s Board. During the meeting, both sides exchanged views and information with the aim of identifying solutions to various challenges related to textile garment exports, in a context of growing global uncertainty and as Cambodia prepares for its graduation from Least Developed Country status in 2029. Mr. Chairman of the Association expressed his gratitude to Her Excellency Minister, as well as to the leadership of the Ministry of Commerce, for their continued support and cooperation in working together to promote export growth in Cambodia’s garment, apparel, footwear, travel goods, and bag industries.

The session, facilitated by Confirel Co., Ltd, was attended by senior leadership and technical experts from the Ministry of Commerce, alongside Mr. SAKETT Sophaseila, representing Confirel. The discussions focused on deepening economic ties and identifying strategic investment opportunities to strengthen B2B linkages between Cambodia and Japan by expanding the reach of premium Cambodian products in the Japanese market, specifically targeting Geographical Indication (GI) and agro-industrial goods, as well as exploring mechanisms to enhance value chains and increase value-added production for Kampot Pepper and Kampong Speu Palm Sugar, ensuring these products meet the rigorous quality standards of Japanese and international markets. The discussions also highlighted successful collaboration models between international firms and local enterprises, such as Confirel, in scaling Cambodian products for the global stage. This partnership approach aims to elevate production quality and align local standards with international requirements, ensuring that 'Made in Cambodia' products maintain a high level of global competitiveness.
