(Phnom Penh): On the morning of Sunday, 8 February 2026, Her Excellency CHAM Nimul, Minister of Commerce, received a courtesy call from His Excellency Waleed Nasser Alsheri, Chairman of the Saudi–Cambodia Business Council, along with a delegation from the Saudi Chambers of Commerce, to explore new opportunities to further promote bilateral trade cooperation between Cambodia and Saudi Arabia. On that occasion, Her Excellency Minister briefed the delegation on recent developments related to Cambodia’s economic and trade policies, as well as the strenuous efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia, with the Ministry of Commerce as the coordinating body, to further improve the business environment in order to attract foreign investors and enhance competitiveness. Her Excellency Minister also invited the Saudi business delegation to consider investing in special economic zones for the production of halal products. In response, His Excellency Chairman of the Saudi–Cambodia Business Council noted the progress of Cambodia’s trade sector and informed the meeting of plans to organize an official visit to Cambodia by a Saudi business delegation in the future. His Excellency also expressed appreciation for Cambodia’s warm welcome and emphasized that Cambodia serves as an important gateway for trade integration within the ASEAN region and has a development vision aligned with Saudi Vision 2030. In conclusion, both sides expressed a strong commitment to effectively implementing the action plan under the Memorandum of Understanding on the Promotion of Trade Relations between the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia and the General Authority for Foreign Trade (GAFT) of Saudi Arabia. They also expressed optimism that, through the establishment of the Saudi–Cambodia Business Council, the business communities of both countries will build closer ties, facilitating the expansion of trade and investment activities.
