News(Phnom Penh): On Tuesday morning, 21 July 2026, at the Ministry of Commerce, His Excellency LONG Kemvichet, Director General the General Directorate of International Trade and lead of the West-East Corridor Development Working Group (WEC-WG) for Cambodia, led a Cambodian Delegation to meet and discuss with a delegation from the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) led by Ms. Mai KAWAI, Director, Asia Pacific Division Trade Policy Bureau Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and also attended by representatives of the relevant ministries. The discussion meeting was organized with the aim of examining the needs of each Mekong member country as input into a new draft strategy aimed at promoting industrial development in the Mekong region.

During the meeting, both sides discussed establishing a bilateral mechanism aimed at expanding the scope of trade cooperation more effectively and targeted. Furthermore, both parties agreed to support, promote, and facilitate businesspeople and private companies from both sides to participate in mutual trade events and exhibitions to explore trade opportunities and new investment partners.

The meeting was convened to review the draft minutes for the upcoming 5th session of the Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Cambodia and Belarus. During the meeting, high-level representatives from line ministries and institutions provided substantive inputs on the draft minutes to ensure comprehensiveness and maximize benefits for trade and economic cooperation between Cambodia and Belarus.
