News(Phnom Penh): On Tuesday afternoon, 20 January 2026, at the Ministry of Commerce, His Excellency Penn Sovicheat, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce, received a courtesy call from Dr. Tanu Priya, Deputy Head of Mission in charge of Trade and Politics, along with her delegation, to introduce her new role in the new mandate, and discuss a number of other matters aimed at promoting and strengthening bilateral relations and increasing the trade volume between Cambodia and India for further growth. The meeting discussed setting priority directions in strengthening bilateral relations between the private sectors of the two countries and integrating potential areas of cooperation, as well as government-to-government and private-to-private cooperation in trade and investment in the areas of agriculture, agro-industry and processing, pharmaceuticals, digital technology, science and technology, further opening bilateral and regional markets, especially the ASEAN market. In addition, both sides had in-depth discussions on existing bilateral and regional mechanisms to make their activities more effective and fruitful.

On this occasion, His Excellency Secretary of State and Mr. Sato Makoto have exchanged views on the overall landscape of trade cooperation and explored potential areas of future collaboration, particularly in promoting the export of Cambodian products, including cashew nuts and other agricultural products, to international markets through Mitsui’s extensive network and expertise. His Excellency the Secretary of State welcomed and highly appreciated Mitsui’s interest in Cambodian products, and highlighted the potential, quality, and competitiveness of Cambodia’s agricultural products in international markets. He also reaffirmed the Ministry of Commerce’s commitment to supporting and facilitating cooperation with international private sector partners in order to contribute to export promotion and the development of Cambodia’s trade sector.

News(Davos–Klosters, Switzerland): On the afternoon of Tuesday, 20 January 2026, in Davos–Klosters, Switzerland, Her Excellency CHAM Nimul, Minister of Commerce, participated as a speaker in a panel discussion under the theme “New Pathways for ASEAN Growth and Productivity” at the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum 2026. The discussion focused on identifying priority pathways to strengthen ASEAN’s competitiveness and connectivity, as well as cooperation between governments and the private sector and relevant stakeholders in the areas of energy transition, the digital economy, financial markets, and industrialization. The objective is to position ASEAN as a long-term investment destination, enhance resilience and productivity, and promote dynamic and sustainable development.

This meeting also included His Excellency Director General, Deputy Directors General, Directors, Deputy Directors, and Heads of Offices. On that occasion, Her Excellency Undersecretary of State provided instructions to all trainee lawyers, encouraging them to further strengthen their studies and research in both theory and practice, particularly in the areas of commercial law, investment law, and related legal procedures.
